Company history

1966 Fabio Perini Company is founded in Lucca. During the same year the first Perini Semi-Automatic Rewinder is built.
1973 December. Fabio Perini, a sole-proprietor firm, becomes Fabio Perini S.p.A., a joint-stock company, and its offices are based in Mugnano, in the province of Lucca (Italy).
1974 The new High Speed Automatic Rewinder Perini Model 450 is introduced to the market. Fabio Perini France S.a.r.l. is established in Paris.
1975 Fabio Perini S.A. Brazil is established for the production of Semi-Automatic and automatic Rewinders for the Brazilian market.
1976 Fabio Perini Germany GmbH is founded in Düsseldorf.
1978 Fabio Perini North America Inc. is established in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
1979 The first Perini converting line sold in USA initiates production.
1984 Fabio Perini Japan Co. Ltd., with administration and production departments, is established in Yokohama and in the same year Fabio Perini United Kingdom Ltd. is founded in London.
1985 Fabio Perini Hong Kong is founded.
1986 Introduction of the Automatic Rewinder Alfetta, Model 68.40.
Installation of the first Point-to-Point embossing/laminating unit.
1988 Perini introduces the first automatic converting line for industrial rolls based on the Rollex Rewinder model 68.60.
1990 Fabio Perini Latin America Inc. is established in Miami, Florida (USA).
1991 Fabio Perini Japan Co. Ltd. officially opens its workshop in Fuji: an additional confirmation of Perini’s presence in Japan.
1993 At the Tissue World ’93 exhibition held in Nice, France, Fabio Perini S.p.A. introduces an innovative product called Solid, a new revolutionary core-free roll, which eliminates the core from the production process.
In December Fabio Perini S.p.A. becomes part of the Körber Group, the German multinational, present worldwide with over 8000 employees.
A new rewinding technology utilizing the surface winding system is introduced and is called Sincro. The market welcomes this innovation with enthusiasm and the company, based on this new technology, entirely redesigns its range of rewinders.
1994 Another opening in the Far East: Fabio Perini Singapore Pte. Ltd. is founded.
1995 Fabio Perini Korea Ltd. is opened in Seoul.
1996 Perini breaks a new record: the first 5450 mm ” XXL” wide converting line is built at the ALFA Research and Development Department.
1997 During Tissue World ’97, Perini officially presents the “XXL”, 5450-mm wide converting line. Over 250 visitors representing more than 100 companies worldwide, have the chance to view this line in operation during the 10 days of the Open House, held at Fabio Perini’s S.p.A.’s Alfa R&D facilities.
1998 The XXL line delivered to the San Marco Paper Mill (Cartoinvest Group, Carrara family), today part of the SCA Group, is in full production.
Fabio Perini China, formerly Fabio Perini Hong Kong, opens its new representative office in Shanghai at the Körber House, where other companies of the group are also represented.
1999 Fabio Perini Singapore Pte. Ltd. changes its site and moves to the Körber House in Singapore.
Fabio Perini North America Inc. builds its new plant.
2000 Fabio Perini S.p.A. completes the construction of its new headquarters in Lucca: 150,000 square meters of space dedicated to technology and research.

Expansions of the Fabio Perini North America Inc. Green Bay facilities, Fabio Perini Japan Co. Ltd.’s premises in Fuji and Fabio Perini S.A. in Joinville, Brazil.

Great success of Perini at the Drupa 2000 exhibition. The second XXL Sincro Line (5500 mm - 214” wide) is sold during the show.

As of June 2000, the total number of XXL Sincro lines sold rises to 4.
2001 In July 2001, Fabio Perini S.p.A. presents the new SINCRO XXL converting line in 5500 mm format, able to pass from the production of toilet rolls to kitchen towels in just ten minutes. The new converting line shattered all production records by reaching the speed of 52 logs per minute during the demonstration, confirming the success of the new XXL line generation.
The line is in operation at the new Industrie Cartarie Tronchetti facilities in Poland.
With its new 4.0 Industria, an automatic rewinder for the continuous winding of industrial rolls with cardboard cores, Fabio Perini S.p.A. continues the evolution of the smallest of the Sincro lines.
2002 In September, great success of Fabio Perini S.p.A. and Casmatic (today part of KPL Packaging) at the first edition of the Tissue World Americas show. The companies participated with a common stand at this an event created for the North, Central and South American tissue markets. During the fair a new system, which confers added value to the product, is presented: DECO EMBOSSING, a new technology of deco-laminating, developed by the Fabio Perini S.p.A. Embossing Development Center.

On October 25th, Fabio Perini S.p.A. inaugurates the new plant in PIP Mugnano Sud premises in Lucca. To celebrate the new facilities, which cover an area of more than 150,000 square meters, all the main authorities of the town and many professional figures and representatives of the world of tissue are present.

In November, Fabio Perini China’s new facilities at Körber Engineering Shanghai Co. Ltd. are opened.
2003 The NEXXT Generation of tissue converting machinery is born, conceived according to the criteria of utmost efficiency, reliability and innovation. The ideal line, seen as an integrated, reliable and flexible production system, has thus taken shape.
The new machinery is officially presented during Fabio Perini S.p.A.’s participation at Tissue World Nice; under these circumstances the Lucca facilities opens their doors for the “NEXXT Open House”. Over 300 visitors from all over the world witness the high-level performances of the new generation of machinery.
Such success is repeated in June, in Japan, at the JapaNexxt Open House, and in autumn, in China, at the ChinaNexxt Open House, event, which introduce the Perini innovations to the important Asian market.
In October Perini Engraving S.r.l. is born. The new company is conceived through the union of the consolidated experience of two leading companies: the first specialized for over 20 years in the engraving of rolls for the embossing of tissue products, and the other, Fabio Perini S.p.A., specialized in the production of integrated solutions for the tissue converting industry. Perini Engraving S.r.l. is exclusively dedicated to the design and manufacture of embossing rolls for tissue converting.
2004 At Drupa 2004, for the first time all the companies of the Körber Paper Link Group specialized in the supply of sheeting, converting and packaging services and machinery for paper, tissue and hygienic-sanitary products are present at a common booth, sharing the same motto: “Eight Brands, Three Systems, One Group”.

CONCEPT X™: the new brand created for the Asian market, launched by Körber Engineering Shanghai Co. Ltd., during the first edition of Tissue World China 2004, is designed to meet the needs of entry-level markets. A complete range of machinery for the converting and packaging industry studied and designed in Italy.

DECO EMBOSSING: the Fabio Perini S.p.A. Fold Division introduces the Deco-Laminating Process for folded products.

COLOR EMBOSSING: the embossing process is enriched through a light coloration of the background pattern, giving the effect of a colored ply.

These two new embossing processes represent Fabio Perini S.p.A.’s answer to the need for differentiation of the finished product. Both systems consent to create a unique and easily recognizable product.

The TIME project is born. It is a revolutionary concept for the converting industry. The idea of an integrated system between converting and packaging is the fundamental philosophy behind this new project. The TIME1000 was the first prototype of this new concept.

2005 At the Tissue World Nice 2005 and the “Innovation TIME after TIME” open house, organized in April at the Fabio Perini S.p.A. facilities, the new rewinder TIME700 is presented. In-line with KPL Packaging S.p.A. machinery, the TIME700 is designed for the production of extra-soft and bulky, low-density rolls, as a more evolved expression of the Tissue System concept. Over 300 visitors from all over the world were present.

At the Miac Show 2005 and the Open House, organized in concomitance of the fair, a new model of the TIME700 line is presented, with further innovative additions in the Tissue System range.

After-sales service has always been the key element of the Fabio Perini S.p.A. offer. Today, the Customer Service and Spares Service and Training departments, with years of market experience, offer many different types of assistance service, amongst which on-line sale of original spare parts, support through upgrade kits, software updates, STAD documentation (manuals for quick & easy consultation) and communicating with the customer through the Newsletter. Furthermore, the Training department offers courses for customers’ personnel.

In October 2005 the “Complete Customer Care Event” constituted an opportunity for an encounter between Fabio Perini S.p.A. and its customers, to introduce the novelties in the field of services, with the motto “The Customer is never alone”.
2006 Innovation, ideas and the desire to bring constant enhancements to the tissue industry. These were the driving forces behind the third edition of Tissue World Americas, the biennial appointment with the tissue market of North, Central and South America, that was held from 15 to 17 March, 2006 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Florida (USA). Fabio Perini S.p.A., together with the Körber PaperLink Tissue companies (KPL Packaging S.p.A., Perini Engraving S.r.l. and Green Bay Engineering), seized this opportunity to present their numerous recent technological evolutions. The TIME concept represents an icon for 360° innovation and for a re-evolution in the converting industry.

Positive feedback for the Concept X™ brand during the Asian Paper show, held from 10 to 12 May in Bangkok. The product range of the Körber PaperLink companies attracted widespread interest from visitors. The participation at the event by Körber Engineering Shanghai once again confirmed the success of the portfolio of products that belong to the Concept X series, the brand dedicated to emerging markets.

On 15 and 16 June, the city of St. Petersburg in Russia played host to the first Tissue Systems Symposium, a convention organized by Fabio Perini S.p.A. in collaboration with KPL Packaging S.p.A., Perini Engraving S.r.l., Andritz AG, Henkel and Diatec S.r.l., dedicated to the markets of Russia and the CIS countries. The symposium took place during the St. Petersburg Tissue Show and guests were able to participate at two Open House events held at Skol and Syassky companies. On demonstration were the X3 and EXTRA5 lines.

New developments for the FOLD sector. On 16 and 30 June, the FOLD Division of Fabio Perini S.p.A., in collaboration with KPL Packaging S.p.A., presented during two Open House events, the novelties in the field of folded products technology put forth by the two Tissue companies of Körber PaperLink. The large number of visitors testified to the success of and the large interest in the machines on demonstration: an 8.5 Folder configured with the Deco-Embossing technology, in-line with the wrapping machine model CMF 150 by Casmatic. The highlight of the event was constituted by the presentation of the new ADVANCED technology, with the folder model 8.7 Advanced in-line with the wrapper CMF 200 by Casmatic. ADVANCED is synonymous of high production speeds, optimization of product quality and of the available space, as is testified by the records set during the demonstration: up to 800 mpm for production speed and up to 5000 napkins/min in terms of product.
2007 Tissue World 2007: Meeting point of the World of Tissue. Fabio Perini S.p.A., KPL Packaging S.p.A., Perini Engraving S.r.l. and Winkler+Dünnebier AG presented “state-of-the-art technology” through a Gallery of Innovations, where over 2000 visitors were given the opportunity to discover the news for the world of tissue brought to them by the KPL companies.
Over 300 people at the “Lucca Event: WHAT A NICE PAPER!” on March 30th 2007 at Fabio Perini S.p.A. Five complete production lines (converting and packaging) “on stage” for the converting of: industrial rolls, household towels (consumer), toilet rolls and napkins. The two main attractions of the technological convention were: the new CoreLess line for the production of industrial rolls with and without a central cardboard core and the innovative FORTYFIVE, for the medium-high market segment, able to guarantee a production of up to 600 m/min or 45 logs/min. Also the embossing branch of the company presented the new “Fusion Art Embossing” concept, patented by Fabio Perini S.p.A., which will allow to revolutionize the logic of all types of tissue rolls.
